| Hallsville Book is Now Available - Monday, June 28, 2010David Frey has selected the core pioneer families from the Hallsville, Ohio area and prepared family trees for each. Families include Buchwalter, Chester, Cryder, DeLong, Dresbach, Harrell, Holderman, Jones, Kerns, Leasure, Moss, Pontius, Frederiick, Strawser, and Roll. It is interesting to see how many of the descendants of these families are still in the Colerain Township, Ross County area. The 62 page book is indexed and includes a listing of burials from the Hallsville (Maple Grove) Cemetery. Cost of the publication is $12.00 plus $.84 tax and $2.00 postage and handling. |
| EXCITING NEW RESOURCE - Monday, June 07, 2010The library volunteers have processed and indexed the first ten years (1810-1820) of the Pickaway County Clerk of Courts' records. The index includes both plaintiff and defendant names, date and type of case. These records include lawsuits, Revolutionary War affidavits, petitions for license of taverns, ferry boats and houses of entertainment, jury lists and more. |

The Ohio Historical Society has many of our early records in their holdings. These books were removed by them from our courthouse back in the 1960s. In order for us to retrieve these records we must order copies on microfilm. We could use your help.

| Historical and Genealogical Library Bicentennial Project - Tuesday, April 27, 2010The Historical and Genealogical library is recreating Pickaway County’s 1890 census. There are still close to 10,000 names not accounted for. If you have names in your genealogy work of people you know were in the county then, get the information to Darlene Weaver or to any of the library volunteers. |
| New Addition to the Library - Thursday, March 04, 2010 The library has received approval to take over the first 100 years of Common Pleas Court files. After some shelf building, we will be transferring these records to the library, where they will be unfolded, marked with case numbers, and a new index made. These will be available to the public as soon as possible after the move.
Records from 1810 to 1820 are now available. |
| Research and Orders Requests - Sunday, May 31, 2009Research will be completed by library volunteers on a first come, first served basis for $25 per surname. Requests must be made by regular mail to PCHS, 210 North Court Street, Circleville, OH 43113 and must include a letter of request with background information.
A check or money order for the research fee must accompany your request. All appropriate library collections will be researched and copies made of findings. Copies of large files will result in a request for copy costs at the rate of $.25 per copy.
Orders for books or CDs may be sent to the address above with the appropriate fees. Materials will be mailed within one week of receipt. |
| A New Book "Pickaway County Place Names" Is Now Available - Wednesday, March 04, 2009This book prepared by Terry L. Frazier is the Bicentennial project of the Historical Society . It contains place names such as "Black Mountain", "Bunker Hill", "Strawberry Prairie" and "Liberty". It is the answer to all your place name questions when you are reading a Pickaway history. The book contains maps of various dates ranging from the earliest known map of a portion of the county to the circle to township and road maps. It also contains plats of the various villages in Pickaway County. Road names have changed over the years. Cemetery Road is now Hitler #1 Road and Hornbeck-Gaver Road is Plummer Road.
