Hours are from 9 a.m. until the cookies are gone (usually by noon). If you can bake cookies for us (any kind) please let us know. They are a delicious way to add to your Easter festivities. | New Books are Available - Thursday, March 04, 2010 PICKAWAY PLACES VOL. 2: Newspaper articles (200 of them) from the early publications of Pickaway Places, Pickaway People by Darlene Weaver is now available. The cost of this book is $18.00 plus $1.26 tax and $3.00 p&h.
MARRIAGE RECORDS 1810-1862: This popular book, out of print for several years, is back in print. It is indexed by both males and females. The cost is $15.00 plus $1.05 tax and $3.00 p&h.

| New Addition to the Library - Thursday, March 04, 2010 The library has received approval to take over the first 100 years of Common Pleas Court files. After some shelf building, we will be transferring these records to the library, where they will be unfolded, marked with case numbers, and a new index made. These will be available to the public as soon as possible after the move. |
| Surveying-Deed Seminar - Thursday, March 04, 2010 SURVEYING-DEED SEMINAR: We will be holding a workshop to teach patrons what deeds provide in your quest for ancestral information. What happens in a partition, how to locate the land on maps, what poles and perches are and more basic information in a deed description. Robert Brown, retired from the Department of Transportation, State of Ohio will be presenting this informative program. No date and time have been scheduled yet but we hope to hold this workshop the beginning of April. We will post information soon. |
| A New Book "Pickaway County Place Names" Is Now Available - Wednesday, March 04, 2009
This book prepared by Terry L. Frazier is the Bicentennial project of the Historical Society . It contains place names such as "Black Mountain", "Bunker Hill", "Strawberry Prairie" and "Liberty". It is the answer to all your place name questions when you are reading a Pickaway history. The book contains maps of various dates ranging from the earliest known map of a portion of the county to the circle to township and road maps. It also contains plats of the various villages in Pickaway County. Road names have changed over the years. Cemetery Road is now Hitler #1 Road and Hornbeck-Gaver Road is Plummer Road.

| Research and Orders Requests - Sunday, May 31, 2009Research will be completed by library volunteers on a first come, first served basis for $25 per surname. Requests must be made by regular mail to PCHS, 210 North Court Street, Circleville, OH 43113 and must include a letter of request with background information.
A check or money order for the research fee must accompany your request. All appropriate library collections will be researched and copies made of findings. Copies of large files will result in a request for copy costs at the rate of $.25 per copy.
Orders for books or CDs may be sent to the address above with the appropriate fees. Materials will be mailed within one week of receipt. |
| The History Detectives - Tuesday, July 07, 2009The History Detectives aired a program segment called "Cemetery Alarm" on PBS, Monday, July 6, 2009. "Cemetery Alarm" is a story about grave robbing and the finding of a grave torpedo that was invented in Pickaway County. Segments of the story were filmed in Circleville with one segment at our Historical and Genealogical Library. Library volunteer, Paul Mayberry, author of Busy Bodies (a book about the invention of grave torpedos and grave robbing in Pickaway County) was featured.
